Knowing where DBD lays

 
First, you have to find a root of Dead By Daylight game folder, because that's where we'll be working. Depending on your platform, there are different ways to get where we need to go:

   [Steam]

  • Have Steam App opened in the Library section

  • Find Dead By Daylight

  • Click on it with right mouse button

  • Select "Properties..."

  • Inside, select "Installed Files"

  • Select "Browse..."

  • From there, pick folders:

  • DeadByDaylight -> Content -> UI -> Icons -> CharPortraits

     That's where you'll be putting character images
     Epic Games and Microsoft Store share the same folder order as Steam

Downloading and Installing

 
    There are 3 different ways to download a pack or individual piece.
    First, select the channel with a pack/individual piece of your interest, then follow one of the ways:

   Nightlight Installation

  • Select a link to Nightlight page

  • The link will take you to either Nightlight App or the Nightlight web page depending if you have it installed or not.

  • [Within App] Click on Download/Install Button and pick whatever you need, and App will install everything automatically

  • [Outside App] Follow instruction provided under Manual Pack Installation

   Manual Pack Installation

     This method requires you to manually extract selected pack into specific folder.
     If you don't know where, follow instructions provided at the top of the channel in Knowing where DBD lays

  • Move downloaded pack inside CharPortraits folder [DBD Directive]

  • Click pack with Right Mouse Button

  • Select "Extract Here"

     Or another way:

  • Click downloaded pack with Right Mouse Button

  • Select "Extract to "PACK_NAME"

  • Open folder

  • Copy/Cut everything from the folder

  • Paste everything inside CharPortraits folder [DBD Directive]

   Manual Individual Installation

     This method requires you to manually extract selected individual piece into specific folder.
     If you don't know where, follow instructions provided at the top of the channel in Knowing where DBD lays

  • Open ChatPortraits folder [DBD Directive]

  • Select downloaded individual piece

  • Put individual piece inside corresponding folder (if not sure which, check 📝║codenames)

     The main format of each image should be:
     For Survivors:
     "%##_NameSurname_Portrait.png"
          Where: % is either S or K [S - Survivor, K - Killer]
          ## is a number of character
          NameSurname is character's name/title          For each survivor/killer portrait/store background, names are provided in their 'Individual Portraits' section, above image categories, for the copy - paste availability.          Starting from Vee and The Krasue, files have additional T_UI_ at the beginning of it's name, creating: "T_UI_%##_NameSurname_Portrait.png" 
     Each picture uploaded on discord as individual or showcase should have correct name, however due of me formatting stuff in multiple folders on desktop, the file name might have more text than it should (additional --# at the end). If that's the case, remove the addition in the file name to fit the requirement shown above.
Lighted Up webpage doesn't have correct names on the files when dowloading, therefore they're provided on every entry of Individual Character Selection.

All Portraits and Store Backgrounds are fully prepared to fit DBD standards - made in 512x512 [Portraits]
and 512x1024 [Store Backgrounds] to properly fit into the in-game overlay margins.Renders on the other hand are made at 4000 x 5000 pixels by default for better workplace area,
with the possibility of increasing the dimensions if needed.
Render includes full view of the character.Finished commission contains 3 folders by default:
- Full Renders containing renders used for portraits
- Default Cut containing portraits and store backgrounds set up for DBD, in close (Default) cut
- Further Up Cut containing portraits and store backgrounds set up for DBD, in cut that shows more of a character

 
Before I begin working on portraits, I will need the following information:

  • The characters and cosmetics to be used (screenshots from DBD are highly recommended)

  • Any specific pose or character placement (optional)

  • Preferred frames and backgrounds (optional)

  • Any requests for recoloring or different lighting (optional)

Anything can be discussed before or after accepting the commission.

 
Payment usually by Paypal, but can work out different ways if needed.

FAQ

Any free stuff?
During commission, there can be additional stull requested at no additional charge:
- Additional version with selected frames/backgrounds
- Different size cut (putting character further or closer from/to camera on portrait, different from Default or Further Up cuts)
- Additional render in different lighting style (as long as commission hasn't been accepted as finished)
Those additions applies only to the paid commission or won giveaway.
